Our virtual beginner’s sewing class provides the patience and real-time support you need to get started on your sewing journey. You will be using that new sewing machine in no time.

Our virtual sewing classes are small (no more than 10 people) so that we can get everyone’s questions answered within the three hour course. 

This class is perfect for the aspiring fashion designer, the boutique owner that needs to make alterations, and the novice crafter. 

Priced at $39.00 for a 3-hour session, it’s definitely worth the investment in your personal and career growth.

About the Instructor

Laurianda C Jenkins is a passionate sewing educator and entrepreneur dedicated to empowering others through the art of sewing. After leaving a corporate career to follow her true calling, she founded The Perfect Assistant, a brand that blends fashion, skill-building, and community impact. With years of experience teaching sewing classes, she has collaborated with organizations such as Girls For A Change, the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Make Space, and Saving Our Youth RVA to provide hands-on training and mentorship.

As the founder of a made-in-the-USA shapewear line, Laurianda is committed to high-quality craftsmanship and creating opportunities for women in rural Richmond, VA. Whether teaching in-person workshops or guiding students virtually, she brings patience, expertise, and a deep love for the craft to every session. In this beginner’s sewing course, she’s here to help you gain confidence, master foundational skills, and bring your creative ideas to life—one stitch at a time!

Class Setup

We suggest setting up your work area with a phone or tablet on a tripod or stand. This way you can view and work comfortably. The chat section of the zoom will be open for questions at anytime.

Supplies for Class

When you register for class, there is a section to input your address. Please ensure your shipping address is correct. We will send you a small package with fabric swatches for class and a spool of thread. You will need to provide the following for class:

  • Scissors
  • Bobbin (a few usually comes with your machine)
